San Dimas History
In the early 1700’s the Spanish explored Southern California and established ranchos that were given to them through land grants. In 1837, Ygnacio Palomares and Ricardo Vejar received a grant for the area, calling it Rancho San Jose. They used the rancho to raise sheep and cattle. When the city was developed years later in the late 1800’s, farmers used the area for agriculture. The city wasn’t incorporated until 1960.
